- File - Rough-bladed tool for smoothing metal and wood, removing burrs and irregularities.
- File card - A file cleaning brush with short fine wires.
- Flat lining brush - A special brush designed for painting edges and corners.
- Float - A wood plastering or rendering tool.
- Flogger - Specialist long-haired, wide, flat brush, used dry to drag through a finish.
- Floor sander - One of two types of machine used together for sanding floors: the large drum sander sands the main area and the smaller disc sander cleans the edges.
- Floorboard saw A special saw for cutting through foorboards when they need to be removed.
- Flux - A paste which removes oxides from metals and inhibits oxidation while soldering. Flux Paste makes solder easily when it is heated for joining pipework.
- Forstner bit - A special type of drill bit which drills exceptionally clean, flat-bottomed holes in wood. It is guided by the outside cutter and not by the point.
- Frenchman - A tool for neatly trimming the mortar when using the weathered type of pointing.
- Fret saw - Used for cutting intricate shapes in thin wood. The deep frame of the fret saw allows clearance when cutting relatively large sheets of plywood etc.
